Te Kete Ipurangi offers comprehensive information about schools in New Zealand.

Children's art is one of the most wonderful areas of human activity, but this is hardly apparent at The Big Idea, "an online community of New Zealand's creative industries." Wouldn't it be nice if all artists could be children, not needing to think about The Big Sell?! Maybe not. Adult artists are also needed, to face the world as adults face it.

The Retirement Villages Association introduces companies that support older/retired people around the country. Are these all for-profit companies? Are there any co-operative or mutual-assistance unions that support people in retirement?

Politics in Aoteoroa New Zealand

The action, research & education network of aotearoa (ARENA) is a network of individuals and organizations committed to resist ‘corporate globalization’ in all its forms" (ARENA, Internet, 9th May 2006).

Perhaps 'corporate globalization' is targeted because very big corporations can acquire monopoloistic power over the countries they deal with, without being answerable to the people they exert power over. We all like to breathe clean air from the global atmosphere (lets be thankful foor the global air supply), but no one enjoys breathing the bad air produced by heavy industries in cities around the world.

Globalization is not inherently good or bad. We need to be specific in our praise or criticisms. Specific criticisms are abundant at the ARENA website. Please visit for an unusual window on political thinking in Aoteoroa New Zealand.

A patchy but useful overview of NZ political websites and party sites is provided by PoliticalResources.net.

Amnesty International, has a branch in Auckland, NZ and is active as a political lobby group inside New Zealand (all countries have problems, even New Zealand.

POETS

In his story, "Alan Brunton - recollections", Ian Wedde at the New Zealand electronic poetry centre has a photo here of a man (thus labelled) who was very briefly my English teacher in Auckland, in about 1974 (PJM 16.1.05)

PEN FRIEND SITES

Does anyone use pens to write personal letters anymore? YES! Why? Maybe because the pen and a blank page encourage us to think before we write. And there is still something special about receiving words written by hand. It may arrive more slowly, but the effect is more direct...

Les Amis de Patricia is a bilingual French/English website for people seeking penfriends.
